The effects of Ga-doping on the phase transition behaviors and magnetocaloric properties of MnCoGe alloys are systematically investigated through calorimetry and magnetic measurements. The magneto-structural coupling between the structural and magnetic transitions is achieved in the MnCoGe1-xGax alloys by decreasing the structural transition temperature via Ga substitution. An 80 K Curie-temperature window is established between Curie temperatures of austenite and martensite phases. Within the window, a magnetic entropy change of 34 J kg(-1) K-1 can be obtained near room temperature under the application of a 5 T magnetic held. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
