This paper is concerned with the H (a) filtering problem for a class of networked systems with packet losses. The networked filtering system with packet losses is described as a discrete-time linear switched system. A sufficient condition for the filtering error system to be exponentially stable and to ensure a prescribed H (a) performance is derived by using a piecewise continuous Lyapunov function approach and the average dwell time method. The obtained condition establishes a quantitative relation between the packet loss rate and the H (a) filtering performance. Design procedures for the full-order linear H (a) filter are also given and presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, an illustrative example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.
