This paper presents a new simple method of extraction of alkylphenols (APs) and nonylphenol mono- and diethoxylates (NP1EO and NP2EO) from water. For the extraction of these pollutants, magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) was tested and the results were compared with liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). Different types of adsorbents, such as Chromosorb, Tenax, Porapak and Chezacarb were magnetically modified and used for the preconcentration and isolation of the target compounds. The following four extraction parameters were optimized: time of sorption, time of elution, volumes of elution solvents and number of repeated elutions. The target analytes were isolated from spiked distilled and tap water, real samples from the river Elbe and the reservoir Rozkos and also from water phase after biodegradation tests of oxyethylated nonylphenols. Extracts of pollutants were analyzed by capillary gas chromatography (GC). Detection limits of the method were between 0.7 and 1 mu g L-1.
