A recyclable Pd colloidal catalyst was found to be effective for the liquid phase hydrogenation of alpha-pinene. Under optimal conditions, alpha-pinene conversion of 99.4% and cis-pinane selectivity of 81.3% were obtained. Furthermore, the Pd colloidal catalyst could be recovered conveniently and reused for eight runs without significant loss of the catalytic activity and selectivity.
