A series of anisotropic Au-Pd core-shell nanocrystals (NCs) have been synthesized by controlled overgrowth of Pd on preintroduced Au nanorods serving as seeds. Iodide ions can selectively adsorb on the {110} facets of Pd and change the final morphology of core-shell nanostructures. The overall morphology can be manipulated by changing the structure directing core or the amount H2PdCl4 introduced. These anisotropic nanostructures with adjustable exposure facets and sizes enrich the types of Au-Pd core-shell structures, while the mechanism discussing the formation process will provide useful information for the further investigation.
