Carbon colloids prepared by hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) are applied as a carbon source for the use in a model anodic half-cell of an indirect carbon fuel cell. A high performance due to the amorphous chemical structure and the controlled topology on the nano- and micrometer levels of this carbon fuel was found.
