Transparent and superhydrophobic films of wax-gourd-like biomimetic Co3O4 microfibers were successfully fabricated on glass slides and ITO using a feasible and controllable hydrothermal method, which involved calcination at high temperature. It was demonstrated that the roughness of the as-prepared microfibers could realize not only superhydrophobicity but also preferable transmittance. The transmittance of the Co3O4 microfiber films after chemical modification with thiol reached up to 88.2%, with a contact angle of 165 degrees and a sliding angle as low as 8 degrees.
