Proton Conductivity of Graphene Oxide Hybrids with Covalently Functionalized Alkylamines

Graphene oxide-alkylamine (GO-Cnamine; n = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18) hybrids were synthesized and found to be stable through bonding between the N-terminals of the amine precursors and the epoxy sites of graphene. The hybrids were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis. The hybrids with short alkyl chains were found to exhibit high proton conductivity. The hybrids indicate the possibility of designing new materials through chemical bonding between long alkyl chains and graphene materials.
