Incorporation of a [2.2]paracyclophane skeleton into a conjugated polymer main chain affords a polymer comprising stacked pi-electron systems. In this article, we describe the synthesis and optical properties of some [2.2]paracyclophane-based polymers on the basis of the results of our resent research. We discuss the role of [2.2]paracyclophane in the polymer backbone, through-space conjugation of the polymer, and the feasibility of using the titled polymers as single molecular wires that allow for unidirectional energy and charge transfer via through-space interactions.
