Reaction of calcium disilicide (CaSi2) and hydrogen chloride solution with various alcohols yields siloxene derivatives terminated with functional groups that are determined by the alcohol used as the solvent in the reaction. The functional groups terminated on silicon determine the basal spacing of the siloxene derivatives.
