Co@CoO hollow spheres have been synthesized and applied as a magnetically separable heterogeneous catalyst for the selective oxidation of alcohol. The catalyst exhibits good activity and excellent selectivity for aldehydes. CoO is the catalytically active component rooted in magnetic cobalt inner shell support, which prevents the catalyst from aggregating and leaching. The catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture by a magnet and reused for several circles.
