Because the metallophilicity of attractive Pt-II ... Pt-II interactions helps in the fabrication of columnar structures, terpyridine-Pt-II complexes were used as planar counter cationic species for formation of charge-segregated assemblies using pi-conjugated receptor-Cl- complexes as planar anions.
