A free base porphyrin/zinc(II)porphyrin dyad bridged by a Pd(II) unit exhibits an ultrafast S-1 energy transfer (1.5 x 10(12) s(-1)) due to significant MO couplings between the acceptor and the donor and a non-nil atomic contribution of the Pd-atom in the frontier MOs, hence ensuring pi-conjugation.
