The bi-functional complex [Pt-II(terpy)(py-naphth)](NO3)(2)(1), incorporating both 2,2 ':6 ',2 ''-terpyridine and 4-N,N '-dimethylamino-1,8-naphthalimide moieties, displays a high binding affinity for DNA as well as displaying cytotoxicity towards and inducing apoptosis in malignant cell lines.
