A palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative acylation of phenylacetamides with alpha-oxocarboxylic acids via C-H bond activation is described. This protocol provides efficient access to a range of ortho-acyl phenylacetamides, which can be easily converted to 3-isochromanone derivatives.
