The C C-linkage of Pt(PR3)(2)(C CAr)(2) with ((CN)-N-boolean AND)(2)Ir((NN)-N-boolean AND)(+) ((CN)-N-boolean AND = 2-phenylpyridine; (NN)-N-boolean AND = bipyridyl) leads to hetero-biand trimetallic species exhibiting photophysical properties reminiscent of both [Pt]- and [Ir]-containing moieties through the generation of a [Pt] > [Ir] charge transfer excited state.
