The distribution of Ti was studied in Alfisols formed from glacial. deposits of different ages. Alfisols developed in older glacial tills contain less Ti in the whole profile than those formed from younger materials. However, the clay fraction of the older soils was richer in Ti than clay from the soils formed from younger deposits. The greater Ti content was explained by more intense alteration of clay particles during weathering and the substitution of Ti for Fe and Al in the clay minerals of older soils. The variation in Ti content with depth was attributed in some pedons to translocation by illuviation or to a lithological discontinuity in the soil parent material. Statistical analysis of the results showed that Ti was positively correlated with clay in Alfisols formed from older till, but there was no correlation in soils developed on younger till.
