The synthesis and characterization of Cp-2*Re2B7H11 provides the first example of an open hypoelectronic metallaborane which is shown to possess an arachno geometry based on a total vertex connectivity identical with that of a canonical arachno nine-vertex, twelve-skeletal electron pair cluster.
