During the last two decades, synchronization in chaotic dynamic systems has received a great deal of interest among scientists from various research fields and several solutions that treat the problem of chaos synchronization in the framework of nonlinear control theory have been proposed. In this article, a novel methodology is proposed to tackle this problem. The main contribution of this article is to provide a robust synchronization mechanism by combining sliding mode control (SMC) and adaptive fuzzy control. The proposed controller uses an adaptive fuzzy system to approximate each chaotic system and makes use of SMC methodology to provide a robust synchronization scheme. Overall, the scheme is capable of eliminating the chattering phenomena while providing good tracking performance.
