The equilibrium constants for the dissociation reaction 2FeCl(-) = Fe2Cl7- + Cl- in {1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium chloride + Iron(III) chloride} FeCl3/BMIC where 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium chlorides is a room temperature ionic liquid, were determined potentiometrically in the temperature range (308.15 to 343.15) K. The dependence of pK(dis), where K-dis = a(Cl-) a(Fe2Cl7-)/a(2)(FeCl4-) on temperature was found to be pK(dis) = 23.07449 + 793.7870(K/T)-0.0349(T/K). (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
