Periostin is a crucial extracellular remodeling factor in the inflammatory and tumor microenvironments, but its function in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease remains unclear. Lu et al. (2014) now demonstrate that periostin is a critical player in the regulation of hepatic triglyceride homeostasis and the development of obesity-induced hepatosteatosis.
