Blends of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and poly(dimethyl siloxane) rubber (PDMS) compatibilised with ethylene methyl acrylate (EMA) have been found to be effective heat resistant cable insulants. Various electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties have been studied. From these studies, it can be concluded that the blends can be used for heat resistant insulation. It is cost effective compared with silicone rubber based insulation. (C) 2003 IoM Communications Ltd.
