In vitro and in vivo experiments showed that anticoagulant activity of sulfated polysaccharide from Fucus evanescens (brown algae of the Okhotsk Sea) was similar to that of heparm. Anticoagulant properties of fucoldan are determined by thrombin inhibition mediated via plasma antithrombin III.
