Recently Dengfeng and Chuntian defined the first operational definition of a similarity measure for intuitionistic fuzzy sets and showed how it may be used in pattern recognition problems. Unfortunately the Dengfeng and Chuntian operator may give counter-intuitive results. We show how a simple modification of the Dengfeng Chuntian operator may correct this problem. We illustrate the application of the modified similarity measure on a simple pattern recognition problem. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
