A liquid chromatographic method based on mass spectrometric detection using atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation (LC-APCI-MS) was developed for determination of cypermethrin in salmon. Cypermethrin was extracted from tissue with hexane and partitioned into acetonitrile. The acetonitrile extract was cleaned up by solid phase extraction (SPE) on alumina oxide and cyanopropyl sorbents. Ion monitoring was performed on m/z 207. The limit of detection was 3 mug/kg and the recovery was 78 +/- 6% (mean +/- SD) at a level of 50 mug/kg. The relative repeatability standard deviation was 6.0% at a level of 10 mug/kg.
