More than 750 historical, outstanding floods that occurred across Europe are considered in the work. From different published sources a file of the very large floods of Europe has been compiled. The main historical floods in Europe and their characteristic features are considered. The regionalization relationships between specific peak discharges and the basin areas belonging to macroscale river flow regimes are drawn. The enveloping curves of the regionalization relationships show the differences in the flood potential for different countries. A comparison between floods that occurred across different areas around Europe has been carried out. The upper envelope curves of the specific peak occurred in Mediterranean regions of France and Italy. Finally, for some regions of Europe, a more detailed regionalization at micro-scale as resulted front the physiographical peculiarities of the river catchment is considered.
