This paper presents some personal reflections on how information technology is moving towards effective and efficient application in control education. The time has arrived for virtual and remote labs to make use of the facilities that the World Wide Web (WWW) provides. The replacement of traditional laboratories with virtual or remote laboratories is presented. Their advantages and disadvantages are evaluated from a critical point of view. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd.
