An efficient green synthesis of Pt nanoparticles in water has been developed using gum acacia. both as reducing and stabilizing agent. The colloidal platinum efficiently catalyzes hydrogenation of nitroarenes to arylamines employing molecular hydrogen as the reductant. Excellent yields of products were obtained with a wide range of substrates and the catalyst was reused for several cycles with consistent activity. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
