One-pot photocatalytic synthesis of quinaldines from nitroarenes using Au-TiO2 nanoparticles is reported. Au-TiO2 on irradiation induces a combined redox reaction with nitroarene and alcohol and the products undergo condensation-cyclization process to give quinaldines. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V.
