ZrO2-doped manganese-cerium oxide catalyzed ethanol oxidation effectively and ethanol was fully oxidized to CO2 at 453 K. The catalyst also showed quite promising stability for 120 h on-stream without obvious loss in ethanol conversion. Structural analyses have revealed that ZrO2-doping enhanced the oxygen storage capacity of ceria by generating more oxygen vacancies, and at the same time promoted the thermal stability through the formation of solid solution.
