Ni-nanoparticles provide efficient catalyst for the reduction of aromatic and aliphatic ketones using ammonium formate or hydrogen (H-2) gas as hydrogen donor. Comparative studies were done on both hydrogen donors, i.e. ammonium formate and H, gas and it was found that ammonium formate was better than H, gas. This method devoid usage of metal oxide or toxic metals, which are required in excess amount. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
