A metallic nickel monolith was prepared from nickel sponge by sintering, followed by acid treatment, and further promoted with CeO2-ZrO2 through an impregnation method. The two monolithic catalysts were studied in the oxidative steam and CO2 reformings of methane. The metallic nickel monolith showed high methane conversion and high selectivities to syngas, which were further enhanced by the promotion of CeO2-ZrO2. The ratios of H-2/CO can be adjusted by adding steam (or CO2) to increase the selectivity to H-2 (or CO). The catalysts exhibited good stability in the reactions. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V.
