This paper will give an overview how catalytic coatings are applied in diesel particulate filter systems to support filter regeneration by soot oxidation with nitrogen dioxide or oxygen. Catalytic coatings can be placed on a catalyst substrate in front of a diesel particulate filter, on a filter, or in a combined system on both. Strategies and conditions for successful filter regeneration of those systems will be discussed.
