Endohedral metallofullerene nanowhiskers and nanosheets were prepared using pristine Sc(3)N@C(80) by liquid-liquid interfacial precipitation. This means that it is possible to prepare endohedral metallofullerene structures without using chemical derivatization techniques. They were characterized using scanning and transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The morphology of the prepared Sc(3)N@C(80) structures could be tailored by merely changing the solvent used for the interfacial precipitation. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
