Although probiotics are prescribed and used widely, their use has not been analyzed clearly. This article provides a review of the literature from 1980 and 2004. It describes 185 references in the literature and 20 different types of studies. The authors also analyze the most common clinical studies evaluated and attempt to add to those studies ally meta analysis or significant analysis done by other authors.
