We describe a simple and fast method to probe the morphological changes on the exterior and interior of a malaria infected erythrocyte at different stages of parasite development. This involves the imaging and scanning of Giemsa stained malaria infected erythrocytes using optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy, respectively. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
