Solvent-controlled assembly of distinct layered Co(II) coordination polymers {[Co(pypz)(2)(dca)](OH)(gly)(2)}(n) ( 1) and [Co(pypz)(2)(dca)(2)](n) (2) with unusual nanoporous or polythreaded architectures, is described. The subtle discrepancy of the solvent media also leads to the generation of the hydrate of 2, namely {[Co(pypz)(2)(dca)(2)](H2O)}(n) ( 3), and an irreversible conversion from the dehydrate to hydrate phase is observed. Both crystalline materials interestingly show different solid characteristics ( e. g. color, shape and stability), although very similar chemical structures.
