Water-soluble C-60 polymers, which have the highest solubility of fullerene reported to date (7.8 mM of C-60 in water), were prepared via copolymerization, and showed significant visible light-induced O-2(center dot 2) generation and DNA cleavage, indicating the potential of these water-soluble fullerene derivatives as agents for photodynamic therapy.
