We report on electrochemical properties of ZnO-coated Li1.05Al0.1Mn1.85O3.95F0.05 in nonaqueous lithium-ion cells over a range of (3.0 - 4.3 V) at elevated temperature (55 degrees C). A coating process was developed to modify the surface of spinel Li1.05Al0.1Mn1.85O3.95F0.05 particles. The ZnO-coated Li1.05Al0.1Mn1.85O3.95F0.05 by a hydrothermal process as the coating method gave homogeneous distribution of ZnO on the surface of Li1.05Al0.1Mn1.85O3.95F0.05 particles. The resultant showed superior electrochemical cycling performance at elevated temperature in Li metal employing half-cells. Excellent cyclability was also observed with Li-ion cells adopting graphite as the anode. Possible reasons for the high capacity retention are discussed. (c) 2006 The Electrochemical Society.
