Micron-scale ordered patterns of highly conjugated molecules consisting of a [2.2] paracyclophane framework containing a conjugated linear arylethynyl side-chain are prepared. These patterns were obtained through an approach where a metallic (Cu) grid is positioned onto indium-tin-oxide (ITO)/glass substrates followed by the application of a bias voltage to the substrate as the solvent evaporates. The confinement of the molecular material under the template mesh is due to the interplay between the solution and the ITO and Cu solid interfaces while it was found that the application of a bias to the substrate led to total control of the final architecture and conductivity of the material.
