High-sensitivity glycomic analyses are becoming of a great interest in modern biomedical and clinical research, as well as in the development of recombinant protein products. The evolution of separation techniques for glycomic analysis at high sensitivity is highlighted in this review. These methodologies include capillary liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis (CE) and capillary electrochromatography (CEC). The potential of such methodologies in glycomic analysis is demonstrated for model glycoproteins as well as total glycomes derived from biological samples. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V.
