Eu doped zinc thiogallate, ZnGa2S4:Eu2+, powders were prepared by solid state reaction process at H, atmosphere by introducing extra S vapor to compensate for the evaporation loss of S. A single phase ZnGa2S4:Eu2+ could be obtained by firing above 850 degrees C for 3 h at 5% H-2 atmosphere. It exhibited a green emission hand at 540 nm with an excitation wavelength of 465 nm that could be emitted from commercial blue LEDs. The maximum emission intensity could be achieved from 4 mol% Eu2+ doped ZnGa,S4 phosphors. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
