An efficient and direct procedure has been developed for the preparation of amidoalkyl naphthols by a one-pot condensation of aryl aldehydes, beta-naphthol and urea or acetamide in the presence of 12-tungstophosphoric acid as a heterogeneous catalyst. The reaction was carried out in molten tetraethylammonium chloride under solvent-free condition.
