This article provides an overview about the prediction of later intelligence on the basis of measurements of cognitive abilities in infancy. Research has shown that the visual paired comparison task, the habituation-dishabituation paradigm and the visual expectation paradigm have proved to be of value in the prediction of intelligence. Studies have demonstrated significant but moderate correlations between infant's abilities in these tasks and later IQ. Reliability and predictive validity of these measurements and their relevance for the research of the structural development of intelligence are discussed.
