Water plays a fundamental role in human life. This research seeks to explore the reality of water in Spain, using indicator called the water footprint. It's analyzed the water footprint in Spanish territory and their economic and territorial consequences. We analyze water resources used in our country, needed to satisfy the demand for goods and services consumed in this first decade of the XXI century. There are two components: internal water footprint, which is the volume of water that is produced and consumed in Spain and external water footprint, that is water used outside our borders, for products that will be imported and consumed by Spanish population. It also analyzes territorial differences in water footprint. The uncertainty of future climatic conditions plays an important role in water resources and real demands planning in the coming decades.
