This review examines the challenges in the chemical synthesis of average sized proteins. Recent progress on sequential and convergent ligation methods, two approaches to the synthesis of proteins, is outlined. An examination of these challenges could aid in the process of finding new methodologies for the efficient chemical synthesis of average sized protein molecules.(1-3) (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
