Two new cucurbitane glycosides, hemslepenside A (1) and 16,25-O-diacetyl-cucurbitacin F-2-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), one new cucurbitacin, 16-O-acetyl-cucurbitacin F (2), along with three known cucurbitane compounds, were isolated from the roots of Hemsleya penxianensis. The structures of 1-6 were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic and chemical methods. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against different three human cancer cell lines, with IC50 values in the low microgram range. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd.
