Hydrothermal liquefaction of municipal solid wastes for high quality bio-crude production using glycerol as co-solvent

Danam Mahesh et al.

Summary: This study focused on the valorization of heterogeneous municipal solid waste using hydrothermal liquefaction process with glycerol as co-solvent, which significantly increased the yield and quality of bio-crude. Phenolic compounds and cyclooxygenates were found to be the major compounds in the bio-crude, with aliphatic hydrocarbons increasing with residence time. The energetic feasibility of the process was confirmed with a maximum energy recovery of 95% and an energy consumption ratio of 0.43 for the bio-crude.

Recent advancements in the ionic liquid mediated lignin valorization for the production of renewable materials and value-added chemicals

Rokesh Radhakrishnan et al.

Summary: Lignin is a plentiful aromatic polymer with low valorization rates due to its complex structure, but Ionic liquids (ILs) have shown promise in enhancing its solubility and aiding in valorization. Improved valorization rates can be achieved by adding chemical or biological catalysts, such as lignin-degrading enzymes (LDEs), in the system. Further research is needed to develop innovative process design, engineering tolerant LDEs, and designing biocompatible ILs to facilitate the commercial viability of ILs-mediated lignin valorization.

Product Characteristics and Synergy Study on Supercritical Methanol Liquefaction of Lignocellulosic Biomass and Plastic

Peitao Zhao et al.

Summary: Bio-oil derived from lignocellulosic biomass and plastic waste through supercritical methanol co-liquefaction showed positive effects on oil yield and fuel quality in terms of higher hydrocarbons content and calorific value. The optimized RS/LLDPE ratio of 1:2 was found to be the most beneficial for hydrocarbon-rich fuel production. Additionally, co-liquefaction also had a synergistic effect on improving carbon and hydrogen contents in solid products.

Supercritical water co-liquefaction of LLDPE and PP into oil: properties and synergy

Peitao Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that scH(2)O can efficiently liquefy a mixture of LLDPE and PP into oil, achieving high conversion rate and oil yield without the need for additional catalysts or hydrogen. During co-liquefaction, more cyclic hydrocarbons were generated and the oil quality was slightly reduced.
