Berry phase in the phase space worldline representation: The axial anomaly and classical kinetic theory

Patrick Copinger et al.

Summary: The Berry phase of Weyl and Dirac fermions is analyzed and classical kinetic theories are constructed. Weyl fermions reduce in dimension and resemble theories in quantum mechanics, while Dirac fermions take on a manifestly Lorentz covariant form. A classical kinetic theory for the non-Abelian Dirac fermion Berry phase is achieved using the spinor construction of Barut and Zanghi.

Mapping the electromagnetic fields of heavy-ion collisions with the Breit-Wheeler process

J. D. Brandenburg et al.

Summary: Ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions are expected to produce the strongest electromagnetic fields in the known Universe, which can be studied via measurement of the Breit-Wheeler process to provide information about the strength and spatial distribution of the colliding fields. Recently, it has been shown that even heavy-ion collisions with hadronic overlap can interact with photons from these fields, offering a purely electromagnetic probe of the produced medium.

Di-lepton production from a single photon in strong magnetic fields: vacuum dichroism

Koichi Hattori et al.

Summary: The study focuses on di-lepton production from a single photon in the presence of a strong constant magnetic field. The analytical evaluation of the photon-to-di-lepton conversion vertex shows an anisotropic di-lepton spectrum dependent on photon polarization, with discretized transverse and longitudinal momenta in the presence of Landau quantization. Additionally, strict prohibition of di-lepton production for massless fermions in the lowest Landau levels is observed due to helicity suppression.

Centrality dependence of dilepton production via gamma gamma processes from Wigner distributions of photons in nuclei

Mariola Klusek-Gawenda et al.

Summary: A new complete method based on the Wigner distributions of photons is proposed for calculating differential distributions of dileptons created via photon-photon fusion in semicentral AA collisions. The calculated results show very good agreement with recent experimental data from STAR, ALICE, and ATLAS without the need for free parameters or additional mechanisms.

Production of heavy charged particles in proton-proton ultraperipheral collisions at the Large Hadron Collider: survival factor

S. Godunov et al.

Summary: Ultraperipheral collisions of high energy protons can generate collisions of approximately real photons, which may result in the creation of unknown charged particles. The cleanliness of such events depends on the survival of protons during the collision, which is influenced by the finite size of the protons compared to point-like particles.

Summary: The study reports the first measurement of the dependence of gamma gamma -> mu(+)mu(-) production on the multiplicity of emitted neutrons in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions. The results show that the average transverse momentum of photons emitted from relativistic heavy ions has a dependence on impact parameters.

Azimuthal angular asymmetry of soft gluon radiation in jet production

Yoshitaka Hatta et al.

Summary: The impact of soft gluon resummation on the azimuthal angle correlation between two energetic final-state particles (jets) was investigated, showing substantial cos(phi) and cos(2 phi) asymmetries induced by initial and final-state radiations. Numerical evaluations were conducted for various collider experiments, revealing perturbative origins of asymmetries dominating over primordial ones in certain processes.

Summary: Lepton pair production in ultraperipheral collisions is studied in the classical field approximation, deriving a general form of the cross section based on photon distributions. The results connect with the transverse momentum dependent distribution factorization formalism in the Born approximation, showing consistency with current experimental data.

Coulomb nuclear interference effect in dipion production in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions

Yoshikazu Hagiwara et al.

Summary: We investigate exclusive pi(+)pi(-) pair production near the rho(0) resonance peak in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions. At very low pair transverse momentum, the Coulomb nuclear interference amplitude leads to significant azimuthal asymmetries in cos phi and cos 3 phi, which can be utilized to restrict the phase of the dipole-nucleus scattering amplitude.
