Improved Thermal Stability and Enhanced Thermoelectric Properties of p-Type BaCu2Te2 by Doping of Cl

Yang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the manipulation of carrier concentration in semiconductors through doping using Cl substitution in BaCu2Te2. The substitution leads to a reduction in hole concentration and improves the thermal stability of the samples. Additionally, the introduction of point defects and second phase enhances phonon scattering and reduces thermal conductivity, resulting in improved thermoelectric properties. The findings demonstrate that synergistic improvements in thermal stability and thermoelectric performance can be achieved through chemical bonding strengthening and grain boundary engineering, which can be applied to other fast-ionic conductor thermoelectric materials.

Summary: The study systematically investigates the synthesis and crystal structures of a series of new mixed chalcogenido metallates, which contain Mn and In elements in a 1:1 ratio. The structural features and coordination number variations of these compounds demonstrate their similarities and differences compared to the corresponding mixed-valent ferrates analogs.

Na6MQ4 (M=Zn, Cd; Q=S, Se): Promising New Ternary Infrared Nonlinear Optical Materials

Yi Huang et al.

Summary: Four newly synthesized sodium-based ternary IR nonlinear optical materials exhibit different second-harmonic generation responses and laser damage thresholds, with selenides showing better SHG responses and sulfides having higher laser damage thresholds. The SHG effect and band gap in these compounds mainly originate from the distorted NaQ(4) NLO-active units with a short Na-S bond length, providing new insights for the design of novel IR NLO materials.

Syntheses, crystal structures, optical, and theoretical study of two ternary chalcogenides CsSc5Te8 and Cs0.6(1)Ti6Se8 with tunnel structures

Mohd Ishtiyak et al.

Summary: Two new chalcogenides CsSc5Te8 and Cs0.6(1)Ti6Se8 were synthesized using the high-temperature solid-state sealed tube method, and their crystal structures were determined. CsSc5Te8 exhibited a monoclinic structure with Cs+ cations present in one-dimensional tunnels, while Cs0.6(1)Ti6Se8 showed a hexagonal structure with TiSe6 distorted octahedra forming three-dimensional anionic networks. Optical absorption measurements suggested CsSc5Te8 is a semiconductor with a direct bandgap of 1.2(1) eV at room temperature.

Syntheses of five new layered quaternary chalcogenides SrScCuSe3, SrScCuTe3, BaScCuSe3, BaScCuTe3, and BaScAgTe3: crystal structures, thermoelectric properties, and electronic structures

Mohd Ishtiyak et al.

Summary: This article presents the syntheses of five new layered quaternary copper/silver-containing chalcogenides, and reveals their structural characteristics through single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The metallic behavior and thermoelectric properties of BaScCuTe3 have been confirmed, with a maximum thermoelectric figure of merit (zT) value of 0.34 at 779 K. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have also been utilized to study the structural and electronic properties of BaScCuTe3 and BaScAgTe3.
